I worked in towers before in my home country in the Philippines for four years, and another five years in another country, in Saudi Arabia. I chose WesTower because I want to harness my skills and experiences in the telecommunication industry. Why WesTower? Because it offers a lot of opportunity to their personnel, especially in safety. They protect their equipment and their personnel and they offer a lot of opportunities to their workers to improve their skills and upskill their experiences. I recommend WesTower to foreign workers because of their safety, and the challenging jobs, and also it’s fun!

My name is Lisa Weklych. I’m a foreperson at WesTower. I work at the Vaughn office in Ontario and I’ve been here about a year.

My favorite part of WesTower is probably the opportunity to learn from so many different people, and people that have been in the industry for a really long time who have all of that knowledge that you only get from being around for so long. The crew that I work with is what keeps me coming back every day. It’s a really difficult, demanding job that I enjoy, but the people that I get to hang out with for 10 or 12 hours every day is really what makes it worthwhile and what makes it enjoyable.

I started in 2008 as just a shop boy when I was 15 years old. From there I transitioned into the field. When I was 16, started as a civil laborer, worked my way to an aerial technician and then once I got my engineering degree transitioned into the engineering department.

WesTower has allowed me to pursue becoming an engineer by offering me opportunities while I’ve still been in school. Before I entered university into the engineering department and getting my degree, I worked in the summers as a field laborer. I continued to work through my summers while in university until I got to a point where I could apply what I’ve been learning to an engineering discipline.

I would recommend any and all students that want this opportunity to put in their chance to work at WesTower. You get to try different skill sets, you get to travel around the country, see different Landscapes, and honestly when you’re up on a tower in the middle of summer when it’s plus 30, you can’t beat a job like that!

I’ve been with WesTower since 99. We were purchased by WesTower in 99 but I worked with another communication company prior to that. I started off in the field with high-rise construction doing general installations of microwave systems for the telephone systems, then I progressed to a supervisor, and up to project management with WesTower then to a manager, to a VP. For me it wasn’t a job, it became a career and a fulfilling career. The telecom industry has taken me to almost every province in Canada to see this great country actually which has been fun, and it has taken me overseas to different areas such as Africa, China, and Russia. WesTower would be a great career for anyone that wants to come here and start at any level and progress up through the system. It’s a great place to have a career.

I started three years ago at WesTower as a Project Manager. A year after, I jump at a project director. And I hold that position for almost a couple months, and then I jumped at a director of operations. I’ve been in the industry for all my life. I grew up in the Telecom and was thought as a big company forever. And my wish was to one day I will work there. Many companies approached me in Quebec and as I always dreamed to work for WesTower, there’s no way, there’s no other company that I’ll go. So yeah, that’s it. It’s just I won’t go anywhere else. Basically I tried other competitors so there’s no way I’d change. I will recommend WesTower one hundred percent. It’s a really big company so we’re not offering a job, we’re offering a career so you can you can plan your future here.

When I hired on at WesTower I started as a green-hand in the Erection Division, building towers and I worked my way up over the years to be a foreman and picker-operator. I would recommend people apply at WesTower because of the diversity, and the atmosphere that’s here that you can go so many different directions. You can go office, you can go engineering, drafting, fabrication, equipment operating, and now we have Wireline and stuff. There’s so many opportunities that it’s definitely a great place to work.

I started with WesTower in 1995. I was hired basically because the Shop Foreman at the time saw me working in my parents field, hired me for two days, and that’s turned into a 26-year career that just gets better and better every year. I’ve been surprised with the ability to have a career that can take me down many different roads. With 26 years working here, WesTower has continued to grow and expand in directions that I just didn’t expect when I started.

I have been working here at WesTower for two months now. My position here at WesTower is Aerial Field Technician. One of the surprises I had working at WesTower was their high level of safety and good working environment. To my compatriots in the Philippines who want to work here in Canada, I recommend WesTower because their work is of high quality, secure and enjoyable.
