Demonstrating the depth of WesTower’s design-build model and national resources, 19 towers were designed and detailed by WesTower with fabrication primarily at our faclity in Elmira, ON with additional fabrication being completed in Thorsby, AB, and Surrey, BC. The towers were then built by construction teams located in Edmonton, Calgary, Surrey, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
This project demonstrated the depth of WesTower’s design-build model and national resources.

This turn-key project involved the supply, delivery, and installation of 19 Weather Radar Systems to modernize the Canadian Weather Radar Network. WesTower was engaged as the subcontractor to provide the tower structure and foundation on a design-build basis. WesTower’s installation crews installed the foundations and the tower structures in summer and winter conditions as required by the project delivery milestones. During the COVID-19 pandemic, all of 2020 towers were fabricated, delivered, and installed as per the delivery milestones established and agreed upon prior to the pandemic and subsequent shutdowns.
The heights of the towers varied at each site from a minimum structure height of 16 meters up to 28-meter structures. WesTower designed site-specific foundations for the Radar Towers and support structures in all soil types and conditions from concrete pier and pad, to rock and deep pile foundation systems. Sites were safely fabricated, delivered and installed sites in multiple provinces: Alberta, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Ontario, and Quebec.
